Performance of the Board
All board members plus the CEO will be asked to assess the board's performance by answering a series of questions based on recognized roles and responsibilities of nonprofit boards. Checklist of Practices
This series of questions, answered by the CEO, measures whether your organization has some basic practices and policies in place. The list is based on concrete, tangible practices that characterize an effective nonprofit board. Some are required by law and others have become widely accepted as good practice. Your scores will be benchmarked against practices of other nonprofit boards across the United States based on data from BoardSource's Governance Index. These questions are divided into four practice areas;

User-friendly features
We have added several features to keep the survey experience both efficient and convenient for your board members. Technical assistance is available during the set-up process and to participants via phone or e-mail.
- SAVE & COMPLETE LATER - The entire survey does not have to be completed in one session. The SAVE & COMPLETE LATER button, which is found at the bottom of every page on the actual survey, enables participants to log in again and resume the survey from the point at which they stopped.
- PRINT ANSWERS - When the survey has been completed participants are given the option to print their answers.
- CONFIDENTIALITY - Individual answers will be kept confidential and are submitted directly to BoardSource. Only aggregate answers are shared with your board via a summary report.
- PAPER OPTION - If some board members prefer to complete the survey on paper this can be arranged. Additional fees may apply.
- CUSTOMIZE - You have the option to customize portions of the survey by adding, deleting or editing questions for an additional fee of $199 which, allows you to modify 10-12 questions.
